2020 Summer Girls Lacrosse Season Cancelled

We have received official word from the MsLax Board that the 2020 girls summer lacrosse season is officially cancelled. I have copied the email they sent me below. If the option of small regional play becomes viable later in the summer, I will reach out to everyone and see if we have enough players to field a team.

We will start the process of issuing refunds shortly. Please be patient with us as we work through the refund process. This is a large undertaking and we are working directly with SportsEngine to make sure the process goes smoothly and minimizes any fees charged to the association.

When the stay-at home order was first issued, we decided to put a hold on ordering uniforms until we knew more about how this would play out. The positive outcome of this decision is that we aren’t stuck paying for uniforms we won’t be using this summer.

Thank-you, stay healthy and enjoy your extra free time this summer!

It is with great sadness that the MSLax board has voted to cancel the 2020 summer league & tournament given the current state of COVID19 safety issues in MN & surrounding areas.

In making this decision, we considered the following items:

  1. The State/Governor Walz working on higher-priority COVID19 safety needs
  2. Safety of all participants & families
  3. Asymptomatic players who could be carriers and possibility of unknowingly spreading the virus to others
  4. The number of unknowns such as, but not limited to:
  5. The end date of the stay at home order continuing to be extended;
  6. # of COVID19 cases still increasing
  7. States/cities/counties having their own set of rules to get people back to work
  8. The willingness of players/families & teams to participate
  9. The availability of fields
  10. The potential liability MSLax could face without having everybody tested &/or vaccinated
  11. The ability for families to move forward with other plans for summers

MSLax did send an email to the State of MN offering alternative to play lacrosse on behalf of some major MN lacrosse associations, & the response received was that the State was concentrating on more testing results & taking care of the severely ill. We sent another email requesting the State to outline a plan of future tasks, timelines, & dependencies needed to open up non-essential businesses & youth sports, but no response yet. Needless to say, this is going to be a long process since the governor is overwhelmed with more pressing items than youth sports.

As alternative, MSLax will help organize regional play days for interested teams if/when Gov Walz allows this summer or fall. In the meantime, teams who have already paid for summer league will be refunded via online credit through Sport NGIN. This will be done in the next week.

This was a very tough decision. More communication will be sent out as we get more information on opening up safely. Until then, enjoy your summer as best you can & stay safe.

FYI, we have been in contact with YLM, & their plan is to wait until May 18 to make an update, e.g., after the next update from Gov Walz. MSLax does not see any change in 2 weeks which will change this decision given the information from Gov Walz.

Please advise of any questions you have.

Thank you,

MSLax Board Members

2020 season dates will run from June through first week of August with all regular season games and practices on Monday through Thursday and a season ending tournament the first weekend in August.  Practices will begin in April once the fields are dry and available.  Historically each team practices twice per week with practices limited to M-Th.

The New Prague Girls will play in the MSLax League.   More detailed league information can be found here:

The US Lacrosse age divisions are as follows:

10U:  9/1/2009-8/31/2011 (Younger is allowed since we do not have an 8U team)

12U:  9/1/2007-8/31/2009

18U:  9/1/2001-8/31/2005 (Graduated Seniors are eligible to play if they fit within the age guidelines.)

The girls (12U and above) will be getting all new uniforms this year.  This will bring all our girls into alignment with same supplier as the High School.  We intend to keep this uniform style for many years.  10U players do not need to purchase uniforms, the association will provide uniforms at the 10U level.

You will have the option to split your registration fee into four monthly payments.  Pay 1/4 at the time of registration, 1/4 on April 1st, 1/4 on May 1st and the last 1/4 on June 1st.

10U - $150

12U - $225

14U - $295

18U - $295

Your total cost will be what's listed above plus the $35 US Lacrosse Membership fee.

US Lacrosse membership number, which is provided to the player once enrolled and US Lacrosse Membership fee is paid, is required to register with New Prague Lacrosse Association.
